Saturday 16th November
The moon rises in the constellation of Taurus, grounding us and fostering a sense of relaxation. In the garden, this is an ideal time to turn existing compost piles to aid decomposition or to start new ones. Land management often yields an abundance of vegetation perfect for composting. When building a compost pile, alternate layers of nitrogen-rich materials, such as fresh nettles, vegetable scraps, and grass clippings, with carbon-rich materials, like wood chips and dried leaves. To introduce calcium, sprinkle ground lime throughout the pile as you construct it. The threefold balance of nitrogen, carbon, and calcium provides simple yet effective parameters for creating a well-rounded and nutrient-rich compost.
