Monday 2nd February
Today is Candlemas, once a widely celebrated Christian festival, closely connected to the pagan festival of Imbolc. As the light begins to increase with new momentum, this time marks a subtle turning in the year. On biodynamic farms and in Waldorf schools, Candlemas is often marked by placing beeswax candles in a significant place in the garden, perhaps alongside gathered items from the land itself — moss, feathers, or whatever feels inspiring in the moment. The candles are lit and slowly melt into the ground, offering a quiet reminder of the returning warmth and light, and of slumbering nature beginning to respond to the call to rise, break through the soil, and reveal its quiet abundance.
